How We Calculated Impact for Donations
We utilized a formula found at https://discerningcyclist.com/used-bicycle-value-calculator/
This formula takes into account the purchasing price of a bike, years of ownership, as well as current condition.
For the first year of ownership, we assumed that the bike depreciates by 50% of its original value. For every year after that, the bike depreciates by an additional 10%.
Then, the following multipliers are applied with respect to condition.
Condition | Multiplier |
---|---|
Excellent | .90 |
Very Good | .81 |
Good | .72 |
Fair | .63 |
How We Assess Condition
-
Excellent Condition:
- Few signs of wear
-
Very Good Condition:
- Some cosmetic imperfections
-
Good Condition:
- Visible signs of use, may need repairs to restore full functionality.
-
Fair Condition:
- Visible damage affecting performance, may need extensive repairs.
How We Calculated Impact for Repairs
We used market competitive rates from local bike shops for labor charges on common services like tuneups, chain replacements, tire/tube replacements, etc.
